Your agency has asked for access to Squarespace. You don't need to share your password for it. Squarespace lets you add them with their own login, choose exactly what they can do, and remove them when the project ends. These are the clicks, checked against Squarespace's own help pages in November 2026.
Which role to choose
Pick the narrowest role that lets your agency do the work. Administrator is usually the right one.
| Role | What it allows | For an agency |
|---|---|---|
| Administrator | Almost everything the owner can do, including design, pages, code injection and settings. Cannot transfer ownership. | Usually the right one |
| Website editor | Adds products, blocks and other content to existing pages. Cannot add pages or change styles. | If the work needs it |
| Analytics | Opens the website and commerce analytics panels only. | If the work needs it |
Add your agency to Squarespace
Open Permissions & Ownership If Squarespace asks which site, choose your site.
- In your Squarespace account dashboard, find your site, click ... and then Permissions to open the Permissions & Ownership panel.
- Click Invite Contributor.
- In the Invite Contributor window, enter your agency's name as the name and your agency's email address as the email address.
- Switch on the Administrator toggle, then click Invite.
Only the owner or an administrator can invite contributors. The Basic plan allows one contributor besides the owner.
How you both know it worked
Squarespace emails your agency an invitation from squarespace.com. Once they accept it, they show in your Squarespace account's list of people with access, where you can see or change their role at any time.
Remove access when the project ends
- In your account dashboard, find your site, click ... and then Permissions.
- Click your agency in the list of contributors, then click ... and Remove Contributor.
- Click Remove to confirm.
Do you have to share your password?
No. Every step above uses Squarespace's own invite, so your agency signs in with their own account, your two-step verification stays on, and anything they change is recorded under their name. How to give a developer access without sharing your password covers the other accounts agencies usually ask for.
Doing this for every client?
Agencies can send each client one GetSetKeys link instead of a page like this. It walks the client through Squarespace and the other platforms the project needs, and checks that each step is done.
