Your agency has asked for access to Google Search Console. You don't need to share your password for it. Google Search Console lets you add them with their own login, choose exactly what they can do, and remove them when the project ends. These are the clicks, checked against Google Search Console's own help pages in October 2026.
Which role to choose
Pick the narrowest role that lets your agency do the work. Full user is usually the right one.
| Role | What it allows | For an agency |
|---|---|---|
| Full user | Sees all data and takes some actions, such as submitting sitemaps and inspecting URLs. Cannot add users. | Usually the right one |
| Restricted user | Sees most data without changing anything. | If the work needs it |
| Owner | Full control of the property, including users and settings. | If the work needs it |
Add your agency to Google Search Console
- Open Search Console and select your property.
- Click Settings, then Users and permissions.
- Click Add user, enter your agency's email address, choose the Full user permission and save.
Only an owner of your property can add users, and the Users and permissions page shows only to owners. The address you add needs to be a Google Account. A property can have up to 100 users who aren't owners.
How you both know it worked
Google doesn't say whether Search Console emails new users. Once added, your agency shows in Settings, Users and permissions, where you can change its permission or remove it at any time.
Remove access when the project ends
- Open your property in Search Console, click Settings, then Users and permissions.
- Open the menu next to your agency's email address and click Remove access.
Do you have to share your password?
No. Every step above uses Google Search Console's own invite, so your agency signs in with their own account, your two-step verification stays on, and anything they change is recorded under their name. How to give a developer access without sharing your password covers the other accounts agencies usually ask for.
Doing this for every client?
Agencies can send each client one Get Set Keys link instead of a page like this. It walks the client through Google Search Console and the other platforms the project needs, and checks that each step is done.
