Your agency has asked for access to Mailchimp. You don't need to share your password for it. Mailchimp lets you add them with their own login, choose exactly what they can do, and remove them when the project ends. These are the clicks, checked against Mailchimp's own help pages in November 2026.
Which role to choose
Pick the narrowest role that lets your agency do the work. Admin is usually the right one.
| Role | What it allows | For an agency |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | The same permissions as the Owner, including users, billing and API keys. Essentials, Standard or Premium. | Usually the right one |
| Manager | Creates and sends emails and SMS, imports audiences and views reports. No billing or audience exports. Premium only. | If the work needs it |
| Author | Creates, edits and deletes emails and templates, and views reports. Standard or Premium. | If the work needs it |
| Viewer | Views email and SMS reports only. Standard or Premium. | If the work needs it |
Add your agency to Mailchimp
Open Account & billing If you have more than one Mailchimp account, check the account name in the profile menu.
- In Mailchimp, click your profile icon, then click Account & billing.
- Click the Settings drop-down, then click Users.
- Click Invite A User and enter your agency's email address.
- In the User type section, choose Admin, then click Send Invite.
Your plan sets how many people can join: the Free plan has only the Owner's seat, and Essentials offers the Admin level only. Mailchimp's invitation expires after 7 days.
How you both know it worked
Mailchimp emails your agency an invitation from mailchimp.com. Once they accept it, they show in your Mailchimp account's list of people with access, where you can see or change their role at any time.
Remove access when the project ends
- In Mailchimp, click your profile icon, then click Account & billing.
- Click the Settings drop-down, then click Users.
- Click Revoke Access next to your agency's email address, then click Delete User in the pop-up.
Do you have to share your password?
No. Every step above uses Mailchimp's own invite, so your agency signs in with their own account, your two-step verification stays on, and anything they change is recorded under their name. How to give a developer access without sharing your password covers the other accounts agencies usually ask for.
Doing this for every client?
Agencies can send each client one GetSetKeys link instead of a page like this. It walks the client through Mailchimp and the other platforms the project needs, and checks that each step is done.
