Your agency has asked for access to PayPal. You don't need to share your password for it. PayPal lets you add them with their own login, choose exactly what they can do, and remove them when the project ends. These are the clicks, checked against PayPal's own help pages in November 2026.
Which role to choose
Pick the narrowest role that lets your agency do the work. Account privileges is usually the right one.
| Role | What it allows | For an agency |
|---|---|---|
| Account privileges | Its own login with only the account privileges you tick, such as viewing your balance, editing your profile or contacting Customer Service. | Usually the right one |
| Reporting only | Schedules and downloads Transaction History and runs the Settlement Report. PayPal can't combine this with other privileges. | If the work needs it |
Add your agency to PayPal
Reporting only
Schedules and downloads Transaction History and runs the Settlement Report. PayPal can't combine this with other privileges.
- Log in to PayPal as the account owner and click the Settings icon next to Log out.
- Click Update next to Manage users, then click Add User.
- Enter the information for your agency, with your agency's email address as its email address.
- Select the option for Schedule and download Transaction History and run Settlement Report, then click Save.
PayPal keeps reporting apart from every other privilege. If your agency also needs other tasks, add it a second user with Account privileges.
Account privileges
- Log in to PayPal as the account owner. Go to Account Settings and open the Account access page.
- Click Update next to Manage users, then click Add user.
- Enter the required information for your agency, with your agency's email address as its email address, and click Next.
- Select the account privileges your agency needs and click Continue, then click Done.
Only the primary account owner can add users, up to 200. If you let your agency send or receive money, PayPal asks it to complete verification.
How you both know it worked
With a reporting only request, your agency sees your account as active on their side once you accept it. With a account privileges, PayPal emails your agency an invitation from paypal.com. Once they accept it, they show in your PayPal account's list of people with access, where you can see or change their role at any time.
Remove access when the project ends
Account privileges
- In PayPal, go to Account Settings and click Update next to Manage users.
- Tick the checkbox for your agency's user and click Delete Users.
- In the PayPal Developer Dashboard, under Apps & Credentials, delete any apps your agency created for you.
Do you have to share your password?
No. Every step above uses PayPal's own invite, so your agency signs in with their own account, your two-step verification stays on, and anything they change is recorded under their name. How to give a developer access without sharing your password covers the other accounts agencies usually ask for.
Doing this for every client?
Agencies can send each client one GetSetKeys link instead of a page like this. It walks the client through PayPal and the other platforms the project needs, and checks that each step is done.
